The Director of the Arkansas State Police is appointed by the governor and holds the rank of colonel. Ultimately, it is the director who bears the responsibility for all department operations.
Under the immediate command of the director are the department’s two deputy directors who hold the rank of lieutenant colonel. The duties of the lieutenant colonels are divided between administrative and enforcement operations. Each deputy director supervises the respective division commander who hold the rank of major. Enforcement is comprised of Highway Patrol, Criminal Investigation and Crimes Against Children Division(s). Administrative is comprised of Administrative Services and Regulatory Division(s).
