The Batesville Police Department has asked for the assistance of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division after an officer involved shooting that occurred last night that left one of their own injured.
Around 7:40 PM yesterday evening (November 3rd), a Batesville Police Department officer responded to a residence located on Neeley Street in Batesville.
The officer made contact with Marvin Stair, 44, who immediately fired a gun at the officer striking him multiple times. The officer returned fire, retreated to cover, and called for assistance.
According to initial statements, as additional officers were arriving at the residence, Marvin Stair appeared from the front door of the home and pointed a rifle at them, leading police to fire on the suspect.
Stair was pronounced dead at the scene. His body will be turned-over to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for examination.
Questions relating to the identity or administrative status of the injured officer or other officers involved in the shooting should be directed to the Batesville Police Department.
Upon completion of the investigation, Arkansas State Police Special Agents assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division will present an investigative file to the prosecuting attorney for determination of whether use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws.
