The State Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for enforcing, periodically revising, and updating the Arkansas Fire Prevention Code. The Office performs other functions that promote efficient and effective fire prevention and control programs in the state. The State Fire Marshal’s Office may review fire protection class code determinations by an advisory organization and determine if the evaluation of fire protection services is reasonable and appropriate. Upon request, the State Fire Marshal may make recommendations to the Insurance Commissioner concerning filings made to the commissioner concerning fire protection standards. The Office reviews plans for State building projects and assists local jurisdictions with plan reviews when needed. The State Fire Marshal’s Office conducts inspections of State buildings and assists local jurisdictions with inspections when requested. Additionally, the Office licenses companies and individuals involved in the fireworks industry and issues permits for above ground storage tanks used for combustible, flammable, and hazardous substances.
