As part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 14-20, the Arkansas Department of Public Safety (DPS) honors and celebrates the emergency operators for their service and commitment.
In 1994, President Clinton declared the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week (NPSTW). This week celebrates and thanks the 24/7 telecommunications personnel who serve our communities and public safety personnel.
Communications specialists are the first point of contact for individuals in crisis. They gather information, dispatch emergency services, and communicate with callers and first responders. This role requires individuals to remain calm and focused under high-stress situations and extreme pressure.
Our communications team shows remarkable resilience daily, managing multiple emergencies simultaneously with limited information. They approach every situation with professionalism, empathy, and commitment to their duty, providing callers with the support they need during a crisis. Their contributions often go unnoticed, but they play a pivotal role in safeguarding our community and enhancing public safety.
“Your unwavering commitment to excellence in emergency communications and public safety inspires us all. Your contributions have made a real difference in our community, and we are genuinely grateful for your hard work and dedication,” said Department of Public Safety Director Col. Mike Hagar. “Please know that you are valued, admired, and appreciated. Thank you for your outstanding service and all you do to keep our community safe.”
