NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The number of fatalities attributed to last weekend’s severe weather event has increased to 10, based on updated information received from local counties.
These fatalities are either directly or indirectly linked to the hazardous conditions that were produced by the storm system that occurred on Memorial Day weekend.
“Each loss of life is a tragic occurrence,” said ADEM Director A.J. Gary. “Please know all those affected by this disaster are in our thoughts and that ADEM will continue to assist Arkansans throughout the recovery process.”
A direct death is caused by the environmental force of a disaster or by direct consequences of these forces, such as a structural collapse or flying debris. An indirect death is attributed to unsafe or unhealthy conditions, such as hazardous road conditions, a stressful environment, or the interruption of utility/medical services.
