On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Arkansas State Police arrested Jacob Shafer, 33, of Palestine. Shafer, former Augusta High School Principal and softball coach, was charged with second-degree sexual assault (B felony) and sexual indecency with a child (D felony). 

The arrest is the result of an investigation requested in July 2023 by the Woodruff County prosecutor after Shafer was terminated by the Augusta School District due to alleged inappropriate behavior with female students. 

Shafer is being held in the Woodruff County Jail.
