HUGHES, Ark. – The Arkansas Division of Law Enforcement Standards and Training deactivated the Hughes Police Department earlier this week, removing the department from service for being out of compliance with CLEST standards.
The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Training and Standards will consider the matter at its next meeting on May 9th.
Division officials met with Hughes Mayor Lincoln Barnett on Friday, April 19th, 2024, to discuss actions required to bring the department back into compliance.
“We had a positive, productive discussion, and Hughes city officials have cooperated fully,” said CLEST Director Chris Chapmond.
The Commission will meet at 10 a.m., May 9, 2024, on the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy campus in East Camden.
